Meg & Tracey

Meg first met Chris when going to row in the US was still just an idea and the Study & Play USA team helped us make Meg’s dream to row overseas a reality. There’s no way Meg would be in America much less at The University of Connecticut on a rowing scholarship without the help and guidance of Study & Play USA. From uploading training footage, contacting coaches and schools, visa paperwork and building profiles there are so many steps involved to get to a college in the US and Chris and Alexa were instrumental in coaching us through the entire process. Study & Play USA was committed to helping us find a college in the United States that was not only the most athletically appropriate but the best fit for Meg as a student too. Meg started at UConn in January as a freshman and Human Rights Major, she is loving her new home and her new team. We absolutely could not have done it without Chris and Alexa, thank you so much Study & Play USA.

"Thanks to the guidance of Study and Play USA, I’m now enjoying a great college experience in California. I am on the men’s tennis team and studying Communications, not to mention living in an awesome location near the beach in Los Angeles!"

“Study and Play USA was instrumental in helping our son achieve his US college basketball dream. After an initial meeting with Study and Play USA we felt very comfortable that he was the right person to guide us through the sometimes complicated process of achieving a US college experience for our son. Study and Play USA secured interest from a number of colleges and our son was thrilled to sign with a college that was a good fit both academically and sporting-wise. Study and Play USA has helped answer a lot of our questions, and continues to provide support when needed.”

Our daughter, Laura, is now experiencing a chance of a lifetime, studying psychology andplaying tennis on a College scholarship in North Carolina, USA.  She was a late starter to tennis and we thought she would never be able to have an opportunity like this.  It was by chance we went to a seminar held by Chris and Alexia Bates.  My son had been scouted through another company four years earlier and we were burnt with that experience so Study and Play’s seminar had to really impress us.  And they did! Their knowledge and personal experience with the US Colleges, coaches etc was very impressive.  Chris and Alexia took the time to get to know Laura, her personality, passion for the game, the level of tennis she was at and her potential.  We never once felt pushed into anything, they were very realistic with us and took a lot of time finding Laura the right fit with a College and coach.  Communication was key for us. The process to get to College and talking with the coaches is very stressful if you don’t have guidance.  Chris and Alexia had all that covered every step of the way.  Laura feels like she is part of their family now and knows Chris and Alexia will be there with her on her 4 year journey and beyond. We have been impressed from the start with the amount of attention, care and detail that has been provided to us.  This journey has been amazing and I can honestly recommend, from our previous experience, Study and Play USA to be your  only College pathway.  No other company compares and Laura is now having the most incredible time of her life.  We can’t recommend them highly enough. We felt comfortable leaving Laura in the USA knowing Study and Play USA is only a phone call away if needed.  A huge thank you to Chris, Alexia and their team.

We cannot thank Chris and Alexia Bates and their great team at Study & Play USA enough for the great experience we had with them putting our two boys Jack and Ryan into the USA college student athlete system. Chris' first-hand experience as a top college athlete, trusted network of coach contacts and ability to navigate the NCAA system was invaluable in getting the boys into colleges that were right for them. Today we settled in our youngest Ryan at Winthrop South Carolina and two years ago almost to the day we settled in Jack at USC in Los Angeles. Could not have had a better experience.

Information provided to us during this initial meeting and his honest approach as to whether Peyton stood a chance for a scholarship based on her academic results and sporting achievements, placed her is “safe hands” to guide us through the process.

For us it was a huge family decision to send our only child to the other side of the world for four years, and that’s where Study and Play USA worked for us – a family run organisation helping our family was the best possible fit.

It goes without saying that Study and Play USA are consummate professionals who provided us with above and beyond support, and most importantly wise counsel on the best University fit, during our journey to have Peyton accepted to a University and sporting program of her choice.  It is was a very involved process and one that we would have not pursued had we not been ably guided by Chris, Alexia and Maria.  The end part of the process for Peyton happened very quickly with her being offered her scholarship in November to start at the beginning of January, it was an incredibly busy and complicated couple of months that was made easier with their support, guidance and help.  They were always at the end of the phone or email ready to help.

We are ecstatic with the University Peyton is attending in Dallas, she is receiving state-of-the-art training from amazing Coaches ably supported by coveted training specialists – she is fulfilling her dream to major in Fine Arts in one of the finest USA institutions – she is working hard but above all is the happiest we have ever seen her both in her sporting and academic pursuits.

We cannot recommend highly enough the team at Study and Play USA.

“Study and Play USA was a massive help for me trying to find a college to further my sporting career. The process of speaking with coaches and organising documents became so much easier. I now have great results on and off the sporting field and I am mixing with a whole different culture. I would recommend Study and Play USA to anyone with the goal of playing college sport in the US….”

Jackie and Philip, Parents

"Our daughter Alex is soon to embark upon the amazing experience of studying and playing tennis in the US having obtained a full scholarship to play Division1 tennis and study for a business degree at a University in New Jersey. This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Alex and we doubt that we could have achieved this without Study and Play USA’ experience and expertise. The process and various steps involved, such as getting certified with the NCAA and taking the SAT, not to mention all the emails and telephone calls from the coaches, can seem daunting and overwhelming. However, Study and Play USA was available to guide us and provide clear explanations of what was required at every step of the way. This in itself is reason enough to engage Study and Play USA to assist. However, the real value of having Study and Play USA involved is their ability to facilitate contact with the coaches to introduce a prospective team member to them and draw upon their own college tennis background and experience to do so. This is just something that we would not have been able to achieve by ourselves and without Study and Play USAs’ input. We have no hesitation in recommending that Study and Play USA be engaged to assist in this process."

Frits & Sue, Parents

"Our son has embarked on the opportunity of a lifetime to study Physiotherapy at a Division 1 University in Texas and play tennis full time whilst doing so with an outstanding coach. Further he is able to do this on an excellent scholarship which covers virtually all his academic, accommodation, meal and tennis expenses. Besides the fantastic experience and academic qualifications he gains, he will return to Australia without the HECS debt now facing so many tertiary students in Australia. Study and Play USA has been tremendous in managing this process every step of the way, guiding us through the marketing and selection process, interviews and visits with various universities and then helping us through the maze of bureaucratic and logistical processes required to make it happen. Chris Bates from Study and Play USA has shown a genuine and personal interest in our son throughout the whole process. We would recommend Study and Play USA to anyone who has a son or daughter thinking of studying and playing sport in the US. Chris was very forthcoming in discussing opportunities with us without obligation and once the decision was made to progress, we found the one-off fee worth every penny and more. We cannot recommend Chris and Study and Play USA highly enough."

“When our daughter Lara first started showing a strong interest in tennis at age 3, we were quick to realise that it was our job as parents to support her interest and talent in the sport and have always sought to surround her with the best available tennis and educational professionals. Some twelve years later, having worked with the founders and directors of Study & Play USA, Chris and Alexia Bates & team for the last 12 months as they oversee the process of optimising Lara’s entry into a US College of her choice as she balances her academic and tennis talents, we can affirm that not only are they great people with a terrific work ethic, but they are equipped with a rare depth of professional knowledge and experience which we would think is unparalleled in Australia and has changed the landscape of US College recruitment within the framework of junior tennis development in this country forever.

From the outset, Study & Play USA backed their knowledge and experience up with the latest tools, in particular the Universal Tennis Rating system (UTR) now in over 200 countries and delivered through their strong relationship with the systems founders, Universal Tennis in the US, providing a much needed school friendly rating system centred around level based play which has quickly become a key tool for US College coaches looking to assess aspiring US College entrants. It is used at UTR tournaments which Study & Play USA runs throughout the year in many states in Australia. Our experience is that for parents and players who believe in using the best professional advice and want the right results from a team who really do deliver, Chris and Alexia & team who come with the same ‘can do’ approach we have found right throughout Universal Tennis and its affiliates, are incredibly hard to look past.

Dear Alexia and Chris

Thank you both and to the rest of the Study and Play USA team for the journey over the last 16 months which saw David leave to Saint Mary’s of California yesterday.

Initially Chris’ advice and interest provided us with a great deal of confidence in Study and Play and the time he invested in answering questions and explaining the process was critical in our decision making process.

We both realise you have hundreds of athletes across a range of sports however we always felt we were the only ones because of the way you communicated and followed up with us at each step of the process. We also realise there are nuances in different Colleges which complicated the process which is all the more reason why the experience you were able to bring was important. Travelling to Brisbane twice for David to meet some current College players and play some matches, hear professionals speak and generally prepare him for what to expect was invaluable and fun (we loved the food at the Christmas party!)

I also felt that once David had left school that he should do bulk of the communication and while that was a massive learning curve we got there!

He was so excited and definitely ready, focusing on his fitness and some match play before he left.

Thanks again and we look forward to watching him mature and learn succeed in the coming months and years.

Kind regards
